FAREWELL PELÉ - KING OF FOOTBALL

The timing of the passing of Pelé is very interesting. It's as if the King of Football didn't want to disturb the World Cup 2022 Qatar. He waited until the World Cup was over and most of the fans had returned to their countries and homes. Then he decided to depart from the World that revered him so much. This is really in line with the personality of Pelé - a humble great man!

The most important thing to remember about Pelé is that he has been an inspiration to a lot of people around the World, not just footballers! There are even people who are named Pelé, who never played football in their entire lives! They were named Pelé because their parents or grandparents revered the real Pelé. There are people of all colours and backgrounds around the world who got their inspiration to succeed, against all odds, from Pelé.

With the passing of the O'Rei, you can just imagine how many new borns, especially, of 2022 and 2023, that are going to go by the name Pelé - not just in Brazil, but around the world!

Pelé was born into poverty and racial discrimination, but overcame all that to be regarded as the Greatest Footballer of All Time by many people and organizations around the world.

Pelé is not regarded as the Greatest Footballer of All Time just based on his talent as a footballer, but also due to his humble personality, and excellent sportsmanship by which he conducted himself inside and outside of the game of football - up to and during his retirement from the game. He lived a very purposeful life during and after his football career. One has to look at all the International Organisations that had Pelé as one of their ambassadors championing various humanitarian causes. Then one has to look at all the honours and titles that were conferred on him by many organizations, countries, universities, etc.

A lot of the people who want to be recognized ahead of Pelé as footballers, fail completely to understand that they have so much more to achieve before they can even start to be recognized as equals to Pelé. Today we have footballers with narcissistic personalities who are not afraid to claim that they are the G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time)! Some of these footballers haven't even won their first World Cup for their countries!!!

The other tribute that we must pay is to the parents of Pelé - his 100 year old Mother (as of December 2022), Celeste Arantes, and his late Father, João Ramos do Nascimento ("Dondinho"), for the disciplined way they brought up their son, Pelé. The way Pelé conducted his life, came from the way he was brought up by his magnificent parents.

As mentioned above, due to advanced age and health, Pelé's family and relatives decided not to tell his mother, Celeste, about the passing of his son. As one will read from Pelé's Wikipedia Page, Pelé spent a lot of time as a child with his mother. We salute Celeste Arantes for both bringing to this world and properly parenting a son who became the King of Football (Soccer).

Pelé, himself, was inspired to be a footballer by his father, Dondinho, who took him to matches of the clubs he played for, and also became his trainer and coach. We salute Dondinho for naturing a son who became the Greatest Footballer of All Time.

(When we celebrate international icons, there is a tendency to forget to pay tribute to the parents and relatives of the icons - hence, we make sure this is not the case here!)
